Keyword Density

Keyword density is the density of a particular keyword, or set of keywords, located on an individual webpage. It is a measure of how many times a keyword is repeated and compared to the overall content of a web page. If a keyword was listed 5 times out of a word count of 50 the keyword density would be 10%.If repeated too often though, it could lead to the page being penalized for spamming.

(or)

Keyword density refers to the ratio (percentage) of keywords contained within the total number of indexable words within a web page.

The preferred keyword density ratio varies from search engine to search engine. In general, I recommend using a keyword density ratio in the range of 2-8%.
